My Nights and Days are Full But I'm Remembering to be Grateful

So my sister-in-law is staying with me, which has been a big help here at the Goshorn House. Yesterday morning we were, once again, up before the sun and waiting on an early morning visit from the plumber who would be finally fixing our kitchen sink. Two days before Greg was due in the hospital, our kitchen sink thought it would make a better shower—spraying water up around and under. This with already mounding stress brought on another embarrassing melt down; we had so much to do and I didn’t think we could possibly add one more thing to my already full plate.

I’m grateful to have my kitchen sink back for the time being, it works but I still have to order another part to get a drip free faucet. With the kitchen sink back in working order, Jane and I kicked it into high gear—we had much to do and we had a check out and check in at the Lake House. Filling in with Greg’s management duties, we had to drive up North to ensure the cleaning crew was doing their job and all was in order with the house for arrival of guests. It wasn’t. We found ourselves having to help the help in her cleaning efforts and our house was unbelievably filthy. I was shocked to find a cigarette hole in the master carpeting—a smoke free home and the bran new Pella sliding screen door trashed. And the trash left behind was disgusting. I will gladly pass the baton back to Greg once he is back and up to the challenge. I have a new appreciation for his work and all he does.

Once we completed all our Goshorn House and Lake House responsibilities, we headed back to the hospital to visit with Greg. When we arrived, he was up and sitting up more in the bed. He’s moving a little easier but with a lot of discomfort. He still experiences bouts of pain and they’re still trying to find the right fit to manage this without causing nausea, which would only complicate his progress in the hospital. They still have him on all liquid diet and on the IV drip—and now that the catheter is out he has to get up and down quite often which is making him a bit irritable.

We left him some hours later to make the trip back to Douglas to collect little Cosey from my neighbor’s place and to relax. Exhaustion is my new normal these days. We had a great meal made the evening earlier by our dear friend and neighbor, Nancy, it was so welcomed and delicious! We’ve been grabbing food when and where we can—which reminds me I have to get another run in and the gym before my work week begins. I think my weeks and weekends are going to be packed full for a while and back to school is around the corner. Sigh.

The healing is taking place with Greg. I’m affirming strength and smooth transitions.

Love you all.
