Some More of My Past Poetry

They

They were young and in love and very full of life; They started an early journey when he took her as his wife

They introduced me to the world and they took me along, you see; It was love that had carried them and it was they that carried me

New journeys have started for my sibling and I; But I remember their journey every year in July

I am their first born child and I feel very blessed; For they are my parents and they are the best

My Little Brother

Something was different, I wanted to seek; She sensed my excitement and said we could peek

We walked down the hallway, her and I creeping; She brought her hand to her lips, Shhh...you were sleeping

I touched you so gently with my five year old hand; Accept me and keep me was your newborn demand

You stole all their hearts and all the attention; This hurt me you see, but was not your intention

You were part of a plan, His I should say; He created a bond which started that day

You're my little brother and I want you to see; My love for you is strong and always will be

You crawled through my toys because you wanted to play; I was told to share and had to teach you my way

You peddled on the hilltop too close to the edge; I tried to stop you but you went over its ledge

My heart began racing and I screamed to alarm; He went down after you and rescued you from harm

It was my job to protect you and all I felt was guilt; Could I have reached you when you started to tilt?

You're my little brother and I want you to see; My love for you is strong and always will be

You joined me at Trinity and I walked you through the door; You went to kindergarten and I grade four

Our bunk beds parted and we got rooms of our own; You made many friends and I became alone

My teenage years were hard, I wish I could have shared; I felt out of place and I was so damn scared

During those years, I was cruel and unkind; I ask for your forgiveness so I may leave it behind

Your words meant a lot although not spoken; I was boarding a Greyhound when you slipped me a token

You're my big brother and I want you to see; My love for you is strong and always will be

I know it hasn't been easy having a brother like me; But I am your only sibling and we are family

You have great compassion and a vary loving heart; You've understood and accepted when others could not start

All through the years, and some were pretty rough; There has been one thing I haven't told you enough

You're my little brother and I want you to see; My love for you is strong and always will be

Guardian Angel

There were so many things that I wanted to share; I share them with you now through God and prayer

I think of our times together, why did it have to end; Their beautiful child, their sister, my aunt and my friend

I remember we danced together when I was a child years ago; And I remember sadly crying when you said you must go

I could not find you, only your wedding gown left behind in our room; Mother wept as she held it smelling your perfume

She cried my baby sister, how I miss you my dear; All those years apart, how I wish you lived near

I cried myself to sleep because you left our family; Only you'd return for visits like a tide in the sea

It became much easier because I knew you'd be back; Oh how I took it for granted each time you would pack

I told you we must dance again, but we didn't have that chance; Our Father called you home and with angels you now dance

You gave me such confidence when it came my turn to leave; And I held my head high as you taught me to believe

There is more to this world then what we've learned in our youth; Listen and look to your heart and there you'll find truth

I'm always near and will help you along your way; And that I shall promise until we dance again one day

A Cold Winter's Night

You had asked me if I remembered the time we had met; It was the Tuesday after Christmas, how could I forget

We ate at the cafe and talked all dinner through; I couldn't stop thinking, did you want me too

You invited me to your place on that cold winters night; How could I say no to that smile so bright

We talked as we hiked through the cold and wet snow; You have been the one I've been longing to know

You made me feel safe as you held me all night; The feelings were powerful and it felt so right

I dreaded that morning, would I see you again; It seems like yesterday, but six months it has been

Retiring to bed is one of my favorite times of the day; With you by my side all my cares slip away

Together we have grown stronger, closer, more in love; What a gift I have been given from the heavens above

I cherish our days together and each day reins true; That you are all that need and I sincerely love you
